You guys aren't some triple A developer team with more funds than you could dream of, you're "just" (note the quotation marks there, there's nothing small about it) incredibly talented, creative and dedicated people who want to do something extraordinary for the community.
Miscalculating time frames isn't disingenuous, it's just natural like you say. It's easy to forget, as a bystander hyping for this thing, that you're unpaid volunteers who are just as much fans and dreamers as we all are. You deserve so many kudos for that and I hope you're getting them. I just wanna say, thanks for being so transparent! You don't owe anybody here anything in the first place, but I feel like (2018 date besides) you and the whole team have been exemplary at managing expectations and being upfront especially in later years. So many variable factors make it impossible to predict. The short of it is that theres been times where it looks like were 1 year away from getting this out and theres been times were even 10 years seemed like a stretch. And then out of nowhere a person of group of people falls our and this perspective gets shattered. And theres been times were everything seems to come together so nicely that a release feels around the corner. The thing is that its not just you guys getting excited by the project. Unfortunately this partially slowed down. The other factor was that for the first time we had a strong 3D department taking on bigger claims in our to-do and were making really good progress. The truth is that while the quests kinda worked most of the were duct-taped together and needed A LOT of work to actually be considered functional. Around this time is when we got our first results from converting quests and the guys working on it were convinced we could get 100% working quests by the end of that year. Its something I bring up often on streams.
